A small taste of the historical basis for the shit-deal women have gotten from patriarchal society through a small sampling of history. This sort of bias lies at the very root of how our society is structured. So please dudes stop declaring that the sexes are ‘equal’ and the job of feminism is done. It isn’t equal and it isn’t your call to make.

Baby steps only so far. Equality would speed up if we can get women in top levels of political authority( no Margaret Thacher types please). “Commander-in-Chief” sounds good w armed forces to enforce equal rights throughout society. I may be naive but could women be as greedy, aggressive and egoistic as men? Worth a try. Keep fighting.

Well, bob, this is why feminists are pushing for liberation, not equality as men tend to understand it. Women don’t simply want to participate in the patriarchal, capitalistic structures already created by men. We don’t want to be able to do the things you do because a lot of the things you do are shaped by masculinity, which is nothing more than a fantasy men tell themselves to justify their domination and violence. Conveniently, you failed to recognize what men need to do, which is to educate yourselves about how gender (masculinity and femininity) are at the root of the problem. Rather than repeat back to women what you think we’re saying, perhaps you could challenge your own privilege. For a start.

Thanks for the stern finger wagging. Privileged for sure: male and white equals two free passes. I see that society’s stereotyping gender roles perpetuates the situation( M. Thatcher, John Wayne,Rockey- all bad). Equality ~ liberation are process and debating definitions won’t gain much. Please please change society’s structures. The right people gaining positions of authority now within the current structures or armed rebellion is needed for that change. A plan to reform or repair interests me but words like: don’t, failed, no, not and what I need to do aren’t progressive beyond an educational phase.

@Bob: “…w armed forces to enforce equal rights throughout society.” I assume somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but an interesting comment. Whose definition of “equal” would these armed forces be enforcing then? And would they be doing it to ensure equal opportunity, or equal outcome?
Idealogue-based legislation already messes up enough in this world, armed enforcement of it would be far worse! :)

Authorities use armed forces right now to maintain the status quo; Every day all over the globe. Throw in collaborators and wannabes* so change is difficult and slow. Too many still are disadvantaged and suffer in a prosperous enlightened global society. I’d take my chances for seeing positive rapid change w Women( why did I capitalize that, horny maybe) in a majority of positions of power- even within the current governmental structures.
