I am considerably skeptical of the claim that DST makes a significant difference in energy consumption. It might have been true in the past, when people were using less electricity on lighting, but that a lot of people have air conditioning, the fact that hot daylight hours induces people to use it could well cancel out any savings due to using less artificial light. Notably, the less savings on lighting is becoming more significant as people are switching to more energy efficient ones.

International business meetings? My goodness, I hate it when things get a lil tricky for big business. Those guys have it so hard otherwise, haven’t they suffered enough? Oh wait, no. Screw those guys.
The bit on suicide/heart attack rate was interesting, though. I’d like to see how the annual suicide/heart attack rate (not just the day after) compare across places in similar climate that do and do not observe DLS. Personally, my spirits are quite noticeably higher when I get to spend a little bit more of my day in the sun. Many I interact with agree with me. I would hypothesize that the overall morale increase over the year would more than cancel out the one day spike of sleep-dep depression. Someone get me a grant for research? Anyone?
