It’s no wonder why this is under “humor” :)
I agree with the safety aspect. Unions deserve much credit for that and I’ve been a direct recipient of their efforts in that regard.
As for the “I prefer having no power” thing, please. Anyone stupid enough to believe that they truly have no power in a company deserves nothing more than what somebody else hands them out of charity. This “no power without us” thing is the kool aid that union bosses “sell” and unionistas lap up like brainwashed idiots. Hopefully people are smarter than that.
Also, they should add:
“I prefer to have the person next to me who I work harder and smarter than get paid significantly more than me because they’ve simply been there longer”
along with…
“I prefer union bosses to make their full, bloated salaries even when I’m out there for weeks getting strike pay”, and
“I think teachers who don’t teach, laborers who don’t labor, and cops who don’t protect should still have their jobs protected – just because.”
Unions – protecting workers’ safety is one thing as is preventing layoffs as a result of inept management, however forcing a company or government to keep criminals, the unqualified, or the stupid on staff is another and that’s what you support here with the usual liberal “blanket of love”.
Blanket hate for unions isn’t right, but blanket love like you see here is just as wrong and equally dangerous, imho.

Unions are good because the threat of unionization causes non-union workplaces to treat employees more fairly. Unions can also destroy the livelihoods of small cities when they get greedy and destroy the businesses their members are working for.
People also take advantage of unions as a cover to allow them to be lazy on the job.
Unions are just a symptom of the government not handling workplaces well.

@JJS
I would offer the idea that people take advantage of any opportunity, not just union membership, to be lazy on the job.

This is true too, but unions can act as an extra layer of protection for those who choose to take advantage of it with more hoops that have to be jumped through before they can be let go.
