Well duh? I mean if we couldn’t stop the 25/8 festival of sin centered fun that all atheists share, why would be atheists?

Well, the idea that atheists stop believing so that they can live without consequence is probably the most foolish reasoning anyone could assert. Moreover, it doesn’t stand the test of scrutiny when you look at morally sound atheists, whose only “sin” is unbelieving. However, there is so much contrived moral logic that it pretty much makes existing a sin, which is no coincidence when you consider the shame driver for religious belief. If religions like the Judea-Christian Religions allow “room or loopholes” for people to be completely moral without God, they’d have fallen apart long ago. That is exactly what original sin is. It’s the “You’re a sinner regardless of your moral constitution, what good you do in the world, or where you were born, or from who”, so that there is no escape from shaming, and being the target of fear campaigns about God’s Wrath, hell, or any other psychological manipulation of the like. Because humans have empathy, we are all susceptible to emotional manipulation when others are able exploit our empathy and our desire to be moral beings. The only counter to that sort of exploitation is to understand what things are, to know, to not be ignorant, and why the Bible itself tells you to be irrational, ignorant, and “like children” before the Lord. Because knowledge needs to be demonized in a system of belief that is destroyed by knowledge.

Meant to say: Existing without sin impossible.

If only those who judge us could acknowledge that the human creation of religions arose from man’s inborn moral sense – that we set out to codify. The moral sense was there first . .. it’s not ‘conferred’ by clergy. But of course you know that, Arb!

Nicely put Moe. :)
I’m always surprised that social cohesion is such a mystery to so many people. Empathy, cooperation and altruism are cornerstones of decent behaviour and harmonious living; yet are constantly being vilified by many cultural agents in our society.

@Arb: I think the villifiers are possessive of their own perceived virtues.
