You know what makes religion go away? Discussing it and teasing out how amazingly toxic it is for people in modern society. Where is the CBC on this media front? We in Canada desperately need a platform to talk about the tough issues that face our societies. Lawrence Krauss slams religion publicly and defends his point of view with great alacrity. We need more of this, so much more.

Australia has been doing a lot of this. Maybe its because we have an atheist PM?

I’m not sure what Canada’s problem is when it comes to the CBC having no spine when it comes to tackling tough issues. I think there are systemic concerns that the CBC leadership doesn’t feel safe in the political climate in Canada to tackle tough issues. The commitment to public broadcasting by the Canada’s population is muted by the private media, lending credence to the idea that public broadcasting somehow isn’t necessary and thus is not worth the taxpayer dollars allocated to it.
The problem is that the CBC would be seen as ‘more relevant and important’ precisely if it would take on shows like Q&A that caused controversy and produced a little heat and light. We are certainly not going to see anything resembling intelligent debate on the private network stations as their implicit goal is to deaden people to public concerns and make buying something the solution to everything.
Discussing issues reasonably then is left to the public broadcaster and believe you me, I am on the CBC’s case about their notable lack of programming that addresses this issue.
Must be nice. :>

I’m doing doubly well… Atheist PM back home, AND an atheist President here in Brazil! I might be an airborne reason virus ;)
Pity to hear about CBC. I figured it’d be as good, if not better than the ABC. Why not write Krauss and see if he’d participate in a debate “if” held. That’d be ammunition to push them over the line…
