I’m curious robin as why you decided to link to your blog in my comments section.
You are following this blog and see what is written here and the positions advocated on many contentious issues.
Specifically, this is a progressive atheist blog that has a streak of feminism that runs a couple of fathoms deep and a parsec wide. Linking your articles that seek to shame women for the choices they make along with a unhealthy dose of delusional religious nonsense is not the best way to start here at DWR.
For future reference, the name of the blog is Dead Wild Roses (DWR), the authors that contribute here are Intransigentia, Bleatmop, Mystrox and yours truly, The Arbourist.

Dear Arbourist,
I just thought a personal touch on the abortion issue needs to addressed. Mostly I think that a woman should not overlook the personal aspects to going through this procedure. God was not the reason I connected my post to yours. My view on whether or not to have an abortion was not the issue. It was of a completely different ilk than you have been writing about. Never once have I read on your blog the personal side, the side-effects, of a person having an abortion. It’s all about the statistics with you. I feel there needs to be looked at what happens INSIDE a person who aborts. This is a VERY IMPORTANT part of the abortion issue you never talk about. It is a very big issue that’s not being dealt with – at all – on your blog.

That would be because I have not, nor will I ever, have an abortion.
And if some of the religious/anti-choicer people have their way, the internal conversations you are talking about simply won’t happen.
And linking to a piece that sets up a scenario of shame will address this need? Look at this from the outside Robin, religions use shame (don’t disappoint magic sky-daddy) and fear (burn in hell sinner) to keep their followers in line. Shaming or inducing fear in women is not beneficial to anyone involved in the process. I grant you that the personal ramifications are a specific angle that has not been addressed here at DWR, but then does your experience reflect the experience of all women?
Of course it doesn’t. It is one experience among thousands. Some women are perfectly ecstatic that they do not have to endure a torturous pregnancy and start their family at the wrong time for them. Does your anecdote encapsulate their experience?
Thank you for bringing your experience to the table, but as I mentioned earlier, the way in which it was presented took much away from your message.

I understand that you had a bad experience with your abortion Robin. That’s unfortunate. Just know that your experience isn’t the norm. Statistics show that most women do not feel guilt. Conversely they feel empowered by their decision to take their life under their control.
However, I think we can find a middle ground. I think both sides here would like to see abortion rates reduces. I can tell you the research supported way to do this.
1. Have abortion safe, legal, and accessible.
2. Have comprehensive sexual education for all, starting at an age before children become sexually active.
3. Have birth control readily available and affordable to all.
4. Educate women and have their bodily autonomy well defined in the law AND protected by law enforcement.
Areas of the world that have these have the lowest abortion rates in the world. Areas of the world that have none of these have the highest abortion rates in the world and the highest rates of women dying from botched backstreet abortions.
