In this space we often decry religion for what it is: toxically delusional buffoonery that still has the gall to raise its putrid head in the light of the 21st century. Here at DWR we regularly delve into the myriad of topics relating to how religion poisons everything it touches and the shite secular rational people have to clean up once the clown-cars rev up and zoom away.
Religion supports patriarchy and thus by definition is anti-woman, the religious right does not want women to have bodily autonomy – the sooner they own that and hopefully reject that retrograde dark-middle-aged bullshite the more relevant to people that think they will become. Religion promotes hatred, sectarian and otherwise with magical beliefs that just happen to support bigotry and racism.
Racism, bigotry, misogyny and, oh hey, lets not forget anti-science and anti-intellectualism because using your faculties to explore the world around you is a sin of the highest order. If you’ve been following the Sunday Disservice, you know that all of the above and more is what we rally against in our fight for a society that uses a evidence based decision making model, not one based on unreliable, crusty mythological scriptures written for a different time and a different people.
We now get a snap shot of what the people in power could be like if religion would just sit the frak down and let rational progressive society do the work necessary to carry us to the next century. I realize this is a repost, but damn if I couldn’t watch this 20 more times and hope for time when it could actually happen.

Ah, if only, if only! Since I am still a-struggle with my own confusing metaphysical arguments, I don’t mind people having religious convictions. But very like this fantasy President, I’d like some consistency instead of cherry picking the book; and I’d like to not be held accountable to a religion I do not claim as my own.
Thank you!

I look forward to the day that religion is not welcome in the houses and halls of government. I should have watched this show, apparently.

You are most welcome.
I’m not either, per say, but they need to be kept private if they are not based on anything real. I can believe with all my heart that unicorn flatulence makes the sun rise and as long as I don’t govern on the principles of Unicorns and their holy gas – all good. It is when we start mixing the delusion with reality and try to impose that on others…then we have problems.

I share your aspirations. Religion and governance should not share the same household; expecting rational policy from those hepped up on delusional coco-puffs is a bit much to ask.
I don’t have a TV that gets reception or anything, but I think I would make time for the West Wing. It exists on projectfreetv so I may have to start watching the odd episode to see if the West Wing rocks as hard as the clips on youtube make it out to.

@The Arbourist, I’ll be checking Hulu and Netflix… for all the same reasons. That was smackdown worthy of the Hitch!

Precisely. Since I’ve actually had a very sincere Christian weeping over my presumed damnation due to my belief in global climate change, because “How can you possibly accept that, when His rainbows still appear in the sky to promise HE will never destroy us again?”….yes, very thank you take your delusions and shove them!
This particular person was even more distressed when I said, “Yes, dear, but even assuming that was true? It doesn’t say a thing about our ability to destroy ourselves, does it?”
