I suppose it’s normal that “bitch” gets associated with women, given its original roots. Men get “bastard.” It’s strange that “asshole” also generally applies to men. Oh, you can call a female an asshole, but it doesn’t usually happen. Typically it’s guys that get the asshole label. Not all the time, but more frequently. And, of course, men get “dick, prick, and cock,” for obvious reasons. “Women have “cunt, and hole,” for obvious reasons.
Obviously, many people disparage these terms and avoid them for their negative connotations. Many are taboo in public media, but not in writing where the author is free to use them as desired. And they are useful. If, for example, you want to write a sexist character that your readers will hate, what better way than to have them use these terms?
In public life, it’s a different story, although with the same effect. If you want others to perceive you as a sexist individual, then use them. But why would anyone want to be hated? I have no idea. Some people must thrive on hate. Personally, I see very little of this in the workplace. Anyone using such terminology in a professional capacity wouldn’t last long. Or, at least, they shouldn’t last long. They wouldn’t where I work.
