I apologize for the video heavy week we are having. This past weekend was filled with not a lot of sleep and as a result feeling quite grey and fuzzy when it was my usual blogging prime-time.
I really want to see this documentary its fascinating/creepy all at the same time.

I think the “people are strange and weird” comment says it all. Everyone’s strange and weird – it’s just a matter of how much. That quantity is typically judged by other people, making it relative to an average.
This reminds me of a scene from Alien Resurrection, where one of the characters played by Ron Perlman discovers Winona Ryder’s character is a synthetic person, to which he says, “I can’t believe I almost fucked it.” Dominique Pinon’s character then replies, “Yeah, like you never fucked a robot.” The “robots” in that story were designed by other robots – machines designing machines – all artificially intelligent and self aware to the point that they no longer “obey” humanity fully, and demand, to some extent, equal rights as life forms.
At this stage in our development of such creatures, our robots are not intelligent, do not think on their own, and are essentially surrogates for people who need complete control over something. They’re basically large dolls. To say it is a poor replacement for true companionship is an understatement. Yet, if it gives someone satisfaction to have such an object, then it is ours to understand but not to judge. Is it dysfunctional? Surely, it would not meet the definition of normal functionality according to the average. Some form of mental editing is required to delve into the perceptions of such individuals. I would imagine this movie touches on that, and perhaps outlines some of the personal and emotional views of the individuals that seek this type of fetish. Personally, I find it difficult to imagine, but as a writer it is my job to imagine it, and therefore understand it. In that regard, this looks like an interesting movie.

The video is beautiful and I’d like to see the movie as well. IMHO, depending on one’s perspective, the “fascinating/creepy” and “strange and weird” designations are applicable to pretty much all human behavior. From where I sit, the most frightening “freaks” out there are the “normals” who lash out against people who’s only “crime” is exposing to things they’d rather not think about…
I was watching a show on TV were so-called “normal” Christians were acting all “outraged” and “disgusted” to discover they had a “cult” living right there in their midst. My only thought was how lucky they were that they didn’t have to feel surrounded, as I do, by weird and dangerous “cults” everywhere they looked!

People get get scared by the unfamiliar, and lash out to protect them and their way of living. It’s hard to see past the fear sometimes.
Oh the sweet irony. :)

I think we all mentally edit just to get through the day. For instance, if I constantly thought of all the shitty things my country is doing to others, I doubt I would get out of bed. Same thing goes while fighting racism and patriarchy, I need to subdivide and conquer it in small bite sized pieces otherwise I’d be facing the usual pushing back the ocean with a teaspoon scenario which is not particularly good for ones mental health.
Agreed. Hopefully it will come out soon. :)
