Is it just me or does every republican politician preach racism, sexism and bigotry to appeal to the wack-a-loon conservative “value voters” ( *sproing* my irony meter just imploded) and once their votes are secured by promising to disenfranchise demonized minority X (women, homosexuals, PoC, etc) they promptly ignore said base and continue to happily cement the budding plutocracy. You would think this ploy would get old like after the first five times, but behold Perry is knocking them out of the park once again.

Hilarious! Haha! I love the eagle scream at 1:14.
Saying “every republican politician” of course is a stretch, but having lived in the Bible Belt I can say that there are definitely some beliefs and practices that make one go, “Huh?” in total bewilderment.
While Canadians (and certainly even some Americans) may find this to be typical of either the country or the party, though, I find it unfortunately to be more representative of the fringe rather than the actual mainstream down here based upon a large number of the Republicans that I know, work with, and interact with daily.
Candidates like Trump, Cain, Bachmann, and Perry are the ones who seem to crowd the stage come election time, and even though the Republicans I know wouldn’t vote for them, they are basically forced to vote either for the flip-flopper or the grinch remaining if they’re going to try and at least get their fiscal values represented in Washington. Either way, i think it’s a sad state of affairs on the Right right now and I wish there were at least 5 true competitors Obama right now instead of just one or arguably two.
Fiscally it seems the Dems are scattered and socially a little more focused, whereas Republicans appear to be just the opposite. The whole thing right now is a hot mess

It just must be me then. :) But it would be nice to see a candidate that values rationality openly on the republican side. It seems that the GOP has painted itself into a corner of sorts when it comes to reality. If your solid ‘base’ is plugged into, how shall we say, less than progressive ideals the amount of wiggle room for mainstream R candidates is quite narrow.

Competition can be a good thing, its just when you are competing to be king of the crazy, its not such an honour.

I agree, but phrased that generally we could also say the same about the current administration when it comes to fiscal responsibility and Federal vs. State powers.
On social issues, however, I agree and say pretty much the same thing when I say that conservatives are being forced to pick someone that they, all things being equal, probably wouldn’t have picked. For instance, most wanted Christie in the race based upon his views and record, and many like Huntsman but back off supporting him knowing that he likely doesn’t have a chance. Why Huntsman doesn’t have a chance is attributed largely to the points you’re making.

Haha. I agree. Putting it lightly, it’s the wrong scoreboard. “Most against abortion”, “Most against food stamps”, etc. vs. “Most for respecting the constitution and letting the States and individuals decide what are really state and individual matters”.
I think if you ask many Republicans if they have their ideal candidate in the race right now, their answer would be “No”. That’s just my observation/opinion, anyways.
