Watch the intensely stupid anti-vax loonery in full bloom as they make the case for exposing your newborns to disease, because if their bodies “don’t want it” they simply won’t get sick.
Their next show is on how Big Science has fooled us into believing that the earth is round…

Most of the cases in the recent whooping cough outbreak in my state (California) were concentrated in two populations. The first were Mexican migrants. The second were adolescents who had been vaccinated as babies but who had not gotten booster shots. Anti-vax parents make easy scapegoats but they represent only a tiny fraction of the population (according to the CA Dept. of Public Health only about 1.6% of kindergarteners in the state have “personal belief exemptions”)
I’m not anti-vax, but I do follow a selective, delayed schedule. I get frustrated when heavy-handed governments pressures parents into making “all-or-nothing” decisions about vaccines. Monovalent vaccines ought to be available for parents who worry about the safety of giving too many shots all at once. There is a far greater public health risk when parents decide to wait on the combo shot (as I did for my youngest when the monovalent measles shot was discontinued under CDC pressure) or skip it entirely.
